It is said that on the hill of Montecuccoli one can hear the frequent the song of the “Cuculo”, and there rises the “Pieve di Valdibure”, an example of Romanesque Church in the shape of a latin cross built between 1100 and 1200 ad. The information concerning the reason of the construction of the unique church is still encircled by mystery.

The freestanding bell tower is placed in front of the main building and is thought to have been a military tower for sight over the valley for defence in the past.

According to a popular legend one says that the Church had been built by the noble lady Matilde of Canossa whom usually passed by these places in order to reach the Abbey to Teone, where it seems she had her personal confessor, a young abbot.

From the Pieve of Valdibure various roads depart, one of these is the road of the courts (Via delle Corti), anciently travelled by pilgrims who passed in order to reach Trebbio, Abbey to Teone and to continue then for Santiago Campostela, on the way they stopped to rest at “La Corte”. One of the buildings is believed to have been an inn where travellers could rest.

The testimonies of the ancient building can be seen in the coat of arms of the Knights of the Cross of Malta and that of the family of the “Pazzi” of Florence, who owned various properties in the area.
